Decorating
Principles
There are
many different definitions of decorating but most people agree
that it means do it yourself home improvement and involves finding
just the right combination of colors and textures to make a
room intresting and pleasant to spend time in.
- Balance is Key - Plan on using both
large and small textures and patterns as well a mixtures of
light and dark to create that eye pleasing blend that is just
"perfect".
- Color and More Color - Unless you
are planning to seel your home, go with warm and inviting
but soft colors in each room. Only select beutral colors if
selling because most new owners will repaint within the first
year and whites and other nettrals make the rooms look bigger.
- Express Yourself. Create a look that
reflects your style and taste. It is your house and it should
reflect you. Select only the combinations that you really
like. Remember, you will be looking at them for several years
to come. Ther is nothing worse than spending good money on
something you weren't sure about and then to decide a year
or two later that yiou really hate it.
- Reuse Your Possessions - Take all
of those great things that you love and fins a place for them
in your new decor. Plan your design to incorporate the things
your truly cherish. Put your favorites things on display and
build the decor around them.
- Make Incremental Changes - If possible
do smaller projects first. Of course, some changes are such
a mess and inconvenience you want to get the whole thing done
in one shot. But when possible, change a little bit at a time.
That way you can decide what you really like and don't like
before making any major committments or time and money.
- Pay
Attention To Detail. Details can make all the difference.
It is the little inconveniences that drive us to distraction.
No matter what you decide, make sure nothing is going to cause
any inconvenience in your everyday rooutine and habits.
